Welcome to the Kentucky State Video page.
Watch these videos and be inspired by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
We Begin Kentucky with interview part 1 of 2 of Judy McLaughlin and & Ginny Ramsey, co-
founders and co-directors of The Catholic Action Center. Seeing a need for filling in the
gap of social services for the homeless in Lexington Kentucky, these two ladies began a
hospitality house. That modest beginning has now turned into multiple programs and
locations that allow the homeless places to stay, a restroom to use, showers to take,
laundry services as well as three meals a day. Watch this video, part 1 of 2 interviews
with these incredible ladies who have created an all volunteer based way to get the
community involved in helping their community. Be inspired by this example of moving
community forward by people who volunteer to help those most in need.
In Pt 2 of 2 of Judy McLaughlin and Ginny Ramsey of the Catholic Action Center we see a
brief tour of one of the centers buildings and also hear the touching story of John, one of
the clients who had an impact on these two ladies lives. Watch and be inspired by the good
that volunteering can do in your community and help move your community, your state, and
this country forward
Moving over to Somerset Kentucky we meet Lonnie Lawson and Michael Cornett of The Center
for Rural Development. The brainchild of one of Kentucky's congressmen, the Center provides
programs and services to help with the issues facing eastern Kentucky such as poverty, job
creation, and healthcare to name a few. in addition, the Center works with youth to teach
them the skills they will need to become leaders of tomorrow. Watch this video to see how
the Center is changing the lives of those in their community and around the state, and is
now reaching across the country and hopes to one day reach across the world.
In Morehead we meet Dr. Enangaw Mehari. Born in Ethiopia and educated in eastern Europe and
America, Dr. Mehari founded People to People to help those in need in Ethiopia. And
although this non-profit helped Us Doctors and companies give of their time and resources
in Africa to help others, Dr Mehari wanted to do something in his new home state of
Kentucky. And so, with help the Peoples Free Clinic began and now Dr Mehari is giving his
time and energy to helping those who do not have insurance get first rate medical care.
Watch this video of a man who was raised to believe that "community is everything" and who
gives back to his community, his state, this country and indeed across the globe. Be
Inspired.
Still in Morehead, we find Stephanie Little, Gloria Metz and Pam Wright. What started out
as a part time idea is now a full time business. In one of the more impoverished counties
in Kentucky, these three ladies started a program to help families break the generational
poverty cycle through education. The Family Learning program focusses on the whole family
not just the adults or the children to give parents the tools and education they need to be
able to help their children and break the cycle of poverty. One family at a time, these
ladies are making a difference in their community and their state.
Next, meet Rodger Roeser, President and Founder of the Eisen Marketing Group. When Rodger
started his company he realized that giving was going to be a part of his success. Once
they were in a position to do so they began giving back to the community by helping Non-
Profit organizations who had little to no money by helping providing them with top notch
marketing services for free. With applications jumping from one year to the next, they now
have a formal process to try to find the best candidates to have the most impact. Watch
this video to see how one company is making a real difference by helping those companies
who make the most difference all across the country.
In Louisville we find Daro Mott. While many people complain about government few actually
do something about it. Daro Mott believed that instead of complaining he would roll up his
sleeves and get to work. He chose local government as his way of helping behind the scenes
to make real change. As if working in your local government wasn't enough he also took his
passion for chess to schools who did not have resources to teach students chess and began
teaching them how to learn the game. Watch this video and see an example of someone who's
making a difference in his community and his state to move them forward.
We finish Kentucky with interview of Cathe Dykstra as well as Rhonda Bynum and Patricia
Brown of Family Scholar House. Believing that education is the key to success Family
Scholar House was created to give single parent families a stable housing environment and
educational program with the specific purpose of helping families with their education.
Watch this video of an amazing program which helps single parent families focus on their
primary way out of poverty.... education. With the support and collaboration of businesses
and people in the community, Family Scholar House is giving people a safe and focussed
place to live while they and their children focus on their education. Be inspired by a
program that isn't simply helping change todays community, but those of the next
generation, and the ones after that... and the ones after that....
