Maryland beings with an interview of Al Watson, Partern of The MANA Group (Making A Necessary Adjustment). Al started the group along with four friends who felt that the theories of conflict and conflict resolution they had learned in college could be taken to the communities that were under-served with hit. Working with children whether it is from a standpoint of school and teachers and parent conflict or with boys who have never met their biological Fathers, or girls who are becoming more violent than their male counterparts, or perhaps dealing with Divorce mediation and conflict resolution in adults, the MANA group is helping people in their community learn how to better themselves and get along better with those around them. Watch this video of a man and a program that is moving their community, their state, and ultimately the country forward.
Moving on to Annapolis, we find Linda Greenberg. Having been brought up by parents who believed in giving back and taught her from an early age that if you have more than you need, give the rest away, Linda has continued the tradition. The Founder of Giving Back, a non-profit which helps the homeless, Linda believes that it's not just your own community that you can help. With her love of helping animals she set out to see and help the great silverback gorillas in Uganda. While there she learned about the children of Uganda, living in poverty, working in stone quarries, and dying from Malaria. Thus she founded For Uganda and is now helping put children in boarding schools to save them from the fates of the children who have gone before them. This and so many other projects are what make Linda Greenberg an incredible example of someone who is moving community forward. Watch this video to see the true meaning of giving, of moving her community, her country and the world forward.
Our next interview is of Ruth Waters. Working her way up from hotel manager to now Director of Sales for the Harrison Group Resort Hotels and Restaurants, Ruth came to Ocean City determined to only stay a year. But if you watch this video you will see that she is Ocean City's biggest cheerleader. Unlike most 'resort' or 'seaside' towns that rely on tourism, Ocean City has turned itself around and is no longer a "seasonal' place to visit. Harnessing the power of cooperation instead of competition, the businesses banded together with the chamber and other organizations and have developed programs and events year round. Employers can now keep people employed even during the so called "off season". Watch this video and be inspired by how this coastal town reinvented itself to become a tourist destination even in the middle of winter. When even during hard economic times you can keep your downturn to 4% or less, you're doing something right. Watch and learn and maybe you too can help your town move its community forward, your state forward and point this country in a whole new direction.
We leave Maryland with an interview of Sharan London, Executive Director of Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless. Getting involved with the homeless almost by accident Sharan is now their biggest advocate. Watch this video and see how this passionate woman has worked her way up to the top of this organization not by ambition but by caring. Listen to the programs they have and hear through her own words how important it is that we recognize homeless while at the same time she advocates that it's not ok to accept it. Be inspired by how this one woman and her organization are making a real difference in the lives many often overlook in their community. Watch, learn, and be inspired to move your community, your state, this country, and humanity forward.
