We begin Mississippi with an interview of Cyrus Webb. Cyrus always felt like an outsider and he sought his refuge in books. But even then, life was difficult and his early school and college years were difficult on him. But his passion for books never left. When he tried to join a book club he was astounded to find that there were no co-ed book clubs available... in fact there were no book clubs men could join at all. So, Cyrus decided to start one of his one... but not just any ordinary book club. Watch this video and see how this extraordinary, yet ordinary man, started something that has now reached well beyond his own State, changing the lives of those in his community, his state, and the country... one book at a time.
Next we find Embra Jackson, Executive Assistant to Bishop Hope Morgan Ward in the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Mr. Jackson, like many preachers wanted to make a difference in the lives of those in his church, but found that he wanted to reach a broader net and so he found his place as the Exec. Asst. to Bishop Hope Morgan Ward. Watch this video and see how the churches in Mississippi are doing more than just preaching. Reaching out to get more involved in the community and to focus on health and wellness so that churches become once again places and centers of health in the community. This Mr. Jackson believes is the key that will impact change in Mississippi and the nation.
Mississippi finished with an interview of Ricky Thigpen, Executive Vice President of the Jackson Mississippi Convention and Visitors Bureau. Mississippi has long had a reputation for being one of the poorest states in the nation. Watch this video for an alternate view of this much maligned state. Listen to Ricky as he tells you what is great about Mississippi and in particular Jackson Mississippi. Sometimes, all it takes, is a new perspective to turn communities around.
