North Dakota

Welcome to the North Dakota State Video page.

Watch these videos and be inspired by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

North Dakota begins with an interview of Rose Stoller. Many people know about mediators and people who help individuals who can't agree on something reach consensus. It should be no surprise then that the same can be true for businesses, corporations, groups, and people trying to form public policy. Working with those who are trying to form Public Policy is exactly what Rose does. Watch this interview and see how working with various groups, especially those whose voice is often not heard, is what Rose and the Consensus Council is all about. Be inspired by a company making a difference in its community, moving the state of North Dakota and the country forward, one consensus at a time.

Still in Bismarck, we find Lisa Kyes, Volunteer, Board Member, Treasurer of Urban Harvest. Sometimes moving community forward is done by the community itself. Banding together artists, farmers, and vendors together to form a summer market can do more than sell your wares. It can become a family gathering place. A place to meet new people, spend time with your family, enjoy live music and above all grow your community. Watch this video to see how this non-profit group of mostly volunteers comes together to move their community forward.

In Fargo we find Judy Lundstrom. Whether it's volunteering with an organization that helps fight literacy problems, or working with the church to quilt for needy families, or helping her community with flooding problems, Judy is the example of what it means to volunteer. Watch this video and be inspired by how you can volunteer in your own community. People helping others is what moves communities forward, moves states forward, and ultimately moves our country forward.

Next is Mary Ann Sheets-Hanson. Sometimes moving community forward means helping those outside of your community, and sometimes moving your country forward means helping those outside your country. Asante Network is doing just that. Helping the women of Africa by selling their wares in America this group of unpaid volunteers helps the women in Africa do what all parents want to do. Help their children get a good education and move out of poverty. Watch this video and see how doing something simple can have a larger impact both in and out of your community.

North Dakota ends with an interview of Laura Oster-Aaland, Director, Orientation and Student Success at North Dakota State University. With North Dakota ranking in the top 3 over the past ten years in drinking for all ages, North Dakota State University decided to try and work with the young adults on campus to educate and provide alternatives for students to cut down on harmful drinking. Watch this video and learn how one university, with the help of the community, is making a difference for their students. Working together the University and the Community are moving the lives of their students forward and helping them learn that there are alternative ways to have fun.
