Welcome to the Oregon State Video page.
Watch these videos and be inspired by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Oregon begins with an interview of Marc Levy, CEO and President of the Columbia United Way in Oregon. While most people know the work the United Way does, you might be surprised at how involved this particular part of the organization gets involved with their community. Watch and learn how Marc's view that it's by getting people together that the most good is done. Be inspired by an organization which works with communities to build and improve communities all across their region.
Next we meet Tom Kelly, President of Neil Kelly Co. in Portland Oregon. All too often these days we hear of the past and how good the "good old days" were with strong work ethics and businesses that cared about their communities. Watch this video and you'll realize that those good old days are alive and well. With Tom's Father as his role model, Tom now runs the family business the way his dad did. By giving back to the community in more ways than just money, though that too. Be inspired by this CEO and President who believes that business has an obligation to help and support the community that it works with and in. See how this man is building community literally and figuratively; moving Oregon, the country and our values forward.
Still in Portland, we find Linda Cohen, Founder of 1000 Mitzvahs. Most of us, at one time or another, have done a Mitzvah, or random act of kindness. We hold a door open, give money to charity etc... Watch this video of a woman who decided as a tribute after her father died, to do 1000 Mitzvahs. With no set timeframe, and no organized method for doing it, she simply set out to pay tribute to her deceased Father by doing 1000 acts of random kindness. Be inspired by this amazing woman who didn't set out to save the world or cure homelessness, but rather take smaller steps, simple steps, and in her own way has changed her life, the lives of those she's touched and in her upcoming book will likely change the lives of many across the country. Moving her community and state, and ultimately many across the country, one Mitzvah at a time.
In Boring, Oregon we meet Elizabeth Fourrier. Hollywood has not been kind in it's portrayal of morticians over the years, and the image they have portrayed of a tall gaunt man with cold clammy hands couldn't be further from the truth for this mortician from Boring Oregon. In this video you will see how one woman and one business is making this necessary part of life a very compassionate and caring service. In the days of corporate profits that skyrocket, you'll see how one business is just trying to provide a service at the lowest price possible. But it's more than the low cost that sets this mortician apart; she truly does care about the people and lives she touches. Be inspired, and educated, by this woman who believes that helping someone care for a loved one involves caring herself. Moving her community and her state, as well as the perceptions of people about this industry, forward.
On to Woodburn, Oregon we meet Jessy Olson. Most of us take where our food comes from for granted. As an architectural student, Jessy was introduced to the challenges and problems of low income housing, and although the huge need was something that interested her it was when she saw with her own eyes the problems with farm worker housing that she truly became engaged. Watch this video of a woman who has taken the not so traditional path of someone with an Architect's degree and is now working to help bring farm workers housing that is much more than a shelter, but a real community in which they can better their lives. Moving her specific community, the community around her, her state, and ultimately this country forward
In Hood River Oregon we find Rob McCready, April Donovan and Tom Lehmann of Blue Collar Interactive. Meet the three founding partners of a new type of advertising agency. Tired of the money and bottom line driven approach to agencies, they found some common ground in their friends and peers that they wanted to start a company that went back to the old days of business where relationships mattered and doing the right thing was more important than making the most money. The Journey met these three a few weeks ago before they actually launched their company. This week, they launched with an incredible promotion aimed at giving back to their community. Watch and be inspired by this new wave of entrepreneurs who want to move their community and their state and ultimately the country forward by taking business back to the grass roots of business dealing and hard work ethic that made this country so great
We conclude Oregon with an interview of Della Rae, Founder of DonorsReasources.org. Most of us think about giving back 'someday'. When Della and her sister were going through their respective garages and piles of things they had to donate they realized they didn't know where to donate the items so that they could see where there donations were going. So they started a company for people to donate things to and that led to donorsresources.org and suddenly their 'someday' was here. Watch this video of a non-profit company that is helping match donors with other non-profits in need. Keeping the pay it forward idea going and moving their community, their state, and this country forward
