West Virginia

Welcome to the West Virginia State Video page.

Watch these videos and be inspired by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

We begin West Virginia with an interview of Tom and Patsy Harman. Hippies of old, these two have lived their lives dedicated to helping.... helping others, helping the planet and now they continue their passion. With their own HealthCare practice they work to help women but more than anything they are dedicated to living their dreams with their ideals. Watch this video and see how two people are not seeking fame and success as much as they seek to live their ideals.

Next is an interview of Joan Stewart. After heavy flooding in West Virginia in 2001 a Ministry was formed to deal with the devastation and the response that was needed. Watch this video of a ministry that is so much more than simply a food pantry or clothes shelter, but one in which getting volunteers involved, building new homes and even dealing with wastewater issues is all just part of the deal. Be inspired by how one community comes together with the help of others to better the lives of their neighbors.

Moving to Lewisburg we meet Sandra Ellard. As part of a program in the state created 20 years ago to decrease the number of premature births and low weight babies Sandra works with prenatal and babies up to a year old. With West Virginias diverse and isolated population it takes a special person to connect with mothers who are by nature wary and skeptical. Watch this video of a woman who goes above and beyond her normal job duties to help the people in the community she serves.

In Lindside we find April Hobson. April grew up with adversity, taken from her parents at a young age, raised by grandparents, then expelled from school over a miscommunication she nevertheless was herself the last person she expected to become a teacher. Soon, however, she found her passion for teaching and has been doing it ever since. Now, she is the teacher students trust. She is the teacher leading her school and her community. Watch this video and be inspired by one woman who turned her own life around and now dedicates her time to helping ensure her students know they are cared about, loved, and have the opportunities to achieve all that they can be; and she should know, she did it herself.

We finish West Virginia with an interview of LaReta Lowther, Vice President for WesBanco Bank. At a time where banks have been getting a lot of negative attention, watch this video to see how some banks, like WesBanco, are focusing on community. With community development programs such as the "Blueprint Community Project" this bank is revitalizing three communities and giving back to the very people it serves as a bank by helping to bring new life to downtowns and help revitalize old spaces. By giving back to their communities they understand that everyone benefits and they therefore are moving their community forward, their state forward, and ultimately, the entire country.
